This was taken during our Coron expedition with Martin, Sylvia and Tonji. The Ruddy Kingfisher allowed me and Martin to come close to it but the angle that I had for shooting it was really bad. I had to hand hold the lens (500mm) between a couple of bamboos while lying on my back and as a result it got its first scratch in an area where the lenscoat doesn't protect it. I think it was well worth it I wish i brought a wide angle to this shoot because a dog went under the RKF while we were shooting it. The bird was only 3 feet above the dog ;D Nikon D3 + Nikkor 500mm F4 VR + TC14EII; 1/50s f/8.0 at 700.0mm iso1600, hand held

Oh man. Super details. Your D3 certainly gives you a lot of artistic freedom to go with your great skill. ISO 1600, 1/50, 700mm handheld and tack sharp.

Jeyps, Tsk tsk tsk. That scratch cost you USD3K. Sell it to me for 4K, so you won't have to worry about it anymore. ;D ;D ;D I'll go you more deal, you don't have to include the TC.

I almost miss this thread. I just saw it today. The best photograph of a Ruddy Kingfisher that I have seen. Compared to my picture yours is like the day and mine the night. The photograph of an experienced veteran is unbeatable. Well done JP. Mabuhay.
