nikon d200 + nikkor 80-400 VR iso 400, aperture priority @ f8 400mm anvaya cove jpeg capture, no post-process this little fellow allowed me to be too close, in fact too close that i had to step back a bit so that i'm within the minimum focus distance for my lens. will post the processed NEF later

Nice catch Manny - you managed to overcome the bright BG and exposed the bird very well! :-)

Good looking bird, the reflection on the eye looks like there is a bird on it. Well done Manny. Mabuhay.

thanks guys! wish i had more time to bird like most of you here. am just terribly lucky i had my 80-400vr on the cam and decided to walk the lagoon pathwalk from the casitas going towards the welcome pavilion. it was perched directly underneath the tree nearest to the trunk, around 1:30pm. had to push iso to 400 and set to aperture priority. glad my photog reflex kicked in and was able to nail the shot. of course big credit to this fellow who just let me do my stuff. here's another take... cooked the background though.... also noticed the CA fringing on the top branch on both shots

I like the first pic, Manny. Great shot! If the picture is mine, I would be really tempted to erase those upper and lower branches.
