When I took these pictures of this Black-winged Stilt capturing a shrimp in between its beak, I noticed that it washes the shrimp several times on the surface of the water before eating it. The second picture shows the bird scheming the shrimp over the surface of the water in a semi-circular motion as if to remove any mud or dirt from the shrimp. A very health conscious bird that likes to eat his food freshly wash. Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) Canon 5DM2, EF 800mm F5.6 IS L Lens, Bean Bag on car window. All pictures were taken with ISO 1000, 1/1000, f9

Woooooooow. Nice catch. Shrimps are really sweet raw. Thank you Toto. I agree with you, especially Prawns when they are eaten live. The Japanese calls them "Odori" or dancing shrimp. When done properly, it is sweet and crispy and it quivers in your mouth. That's Odori. Mabuhay.

Thank you Adri. Funny thing with this bird is that sometimes they are so far and moving all the time. Sometimes they are near and don't move as much. Those are the most enjoyable moments. Mabuhay.

Great series, Ely! Here, these birds have a resemblance (a bit similar) to a black-necked stilt. Still, I miss photographing Philippine birds. Hope Bob K and Cynthia have a good time there. Thanks for sharing anyway.
