while waiting for birds at Warriewood Wetlands last weekend, i decided to add 20mm and 36mm ext tubes to the 600 to improve focusing distance and magnification. i took the cue from william's other post of a dragonfly taken with a 600mm + 1.4TC. D300 + 600mm f/4 + 20mm + 36mm kenko ext tubes f/11 (native) 1/400 ISO 800 manfrotto tripod + 393 head. manual focus heavy crop

Not that I don't have one, but I would never thought about adding extension tubes to a 600mm. ;D
What is the subject distance relative to the body for that capture?

hehe.. before i ventured into birding, i was first 'insecting' and other macro interests since it's a cheaper route (haha!) normally, the min focus dist of this old lens is very far at 6.5m. when i added 56mm worth of ext tube, i think it cut it in half if i remember correctly.
