No birding today for me, so I set out this morning to hunt bugs in my backyard. Don't know the ID of this fellow - it's about 8 to 10 mm long excluding the antennae and it prefers to stay on the blooms and leaves of a local squash plant ( kalabasa). 20D + 100 2.8 macro, f/10, 1/50 sec, ISO 400, manual focus, manual exposure, tripod/geared head, on-board flash at -1.33 FECRomy

Thanks, Eric. Here's another one at the same squash plant - I turned off the flash at this one because artificial light messes up with the sensitive colors of the bug's eyes. 20D + 100 2.8 USM macro, f/8, ISO 400, 1/160 sec, manual exposure in available light, hand held:Romy

Super captures Romy!
I forget the name of the fly on the second pic, but it may be the Mediterranean Fruit Fly. If I remember right, it lays eggs on the fruit and the larvae eat the fruit. Pest insect.
