This is the "famous" and much-photographed Indigo Banded Kingfisher of Villa Escudero. We got to see it bashing a crab on a log .. just like in Master Romy's old avatar! The first picture shows its beak filling up with the milky white crab blood. I'm assuming that's crab blood! The second picture shows the after-effects of the violent crab bashing .. spilled crab blood and a severed crab leg! Indigo Banded Kingfisherf4, iso640, 1/30 f4, iso 640, 1/40 These pictures were taken at a different angle from Tonji's version. He was in the water, I was standing on the path. Canon 50d + Canon 300 2.8 + Canon 1.4tc

This guy mastered the art of eating a crab. It must be his staple food. No wonder it won't leave the area. Good job guys for capturing the moment.

Thank you Toto, Bobby, Tina, Ely, Teddy, William, and Alain! It was really thrilling to witness that! So glad I was able to capture it, even with the low light because of the netting above the water part and the occasional big clouds of smoke from the barbecue being cooked there! The price of birding while having a barbecue buffet! TINA - yup, worrrth it!

Sylvia, I think I know the perch, which is usually quite dark. This shots is indeed super considering the conditions. My own shots here were quite blurred because of the slow shutter speed.
