That certainly is a nice name for this beautiful bird. You are very fortunate to have the opportunity to see and photo all kinds of birds. Make the most out of it while you are there. We have to travel far and look for birds that we can photo and its only once in a while that we chance upon a good one. Well done Ariel. Mabuhay.

Hi Ariel, If that is how they call this bird, then they do not know what they are talking about.
Not Manacus. This is some sort of Icterid. Most likely genus Icterus (a New World Oriole). Will try and dice it out if I can find the time.
All Manacus sp., are nice plump roly-poly little buggers with short tails.

I am not an expert on bird ID and I am just relying on a small wildlife guide I bought from a local shop. So if I saw a bird that looks like the one from my guidebook, then I named it that way. I also do not have a birding buddy here as I usually travel alone to take pictures. I will seriously take your suggestion to have a better guidebook. Regards.

Ariel, I had the impression that you had a bird guide (a person) with you (also because of the "Boat-billed Heron" where you mentioned being guided in a boat). Since you are basically teaching yourself as you go along, disregard my comments since I did believe that it was not directed at you, but rather at a presumed person incapable of doing identifications. Just consider that anybody good at bird identifications, including myself, was not born with it - takes a lot of practise.
