Looks like I won't be coming out with a review of this new camera until I can shoot one in better weather than what we got at Paralaya. In place of a review, let's post some of our beta 7D captures here..... any subject. Photos of birdnuts during the Paralaya sorties are welcome too (not necessarily taken with the 7D, you may re-post photos already posted in other threads). Just indicate shooting info, as customary. Comments and questions are allowed too. ;D Full sized samples from the beta 7D are here:www.pbase.com/liquidstone/7d_preprod__________________________________ Common name : Blue-tailed Bee-eaterScientific name: Merops philippinusHabitat: Open country usually associated with water - along rivers, marshes and ricefields. JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THEIR OFFICE. While I worry about important things in life like sensor noise, AF speed and dynamic range of the 7D, this pair of scavengers walk home from another day at their office, with their collection of recyclables. During typhoon season, such mounds of garbage are a familiar sight at Metro Manila's beach fronts. Wow love them all Mastah. Love the very clean BG the 7D produces that is, if it's not been denoised. Here's my share, an overgrown Pipit. ;D Richard's Pipit50D + EF500, f6.3, 1/1000, ISO 320, Manual Exposure, Handheld

I was not able to use the 7D for birds but I tried it on passing vehicles, running about 60 km/hr along the highway. The photo was taken in jpeg format with no post processing. Canon 7D (pre-production), Canon 400mm f/5.6 (Thanks Alain) at f/5.6, 1/200, ISO320, handheld

Good job!

Wow, those are Oconific captures indeed Mastah! I saw the Orig captures, and your process really makes them come alive. :-)

Wow, those are Oconific captures indeed Mastah! I saw the Orig captures, and your process really makes them come alive. :-) Thanks Bobby. Test samples are normally posted with little or no sharpening, and flat-looking. This is to give leeway to others in processing these according to one's workflow and taste.

Haven't tested the 7D (beta) last Saturday on birds but managed to squeeze in some shutters to get a feel and general impression of the new cam. Here is my share: Canon 7D (Beta), 400mm f5.6L Shot @ f16, 1/30", ISO320, Handheld. Canon 7D (Beta), 400mm f5.6L Shot @ f10, 1/200", ISO320, Handheld. This shot had a foreground object that momentarily covered the subject but 7D just ignored it. AF tracking must be good though the subject being tracked is way too large so the subject's size must have compensated the AF performance. Canon 7D (Beta), 400mm f5.6L Shot @ f10, 1/200", ISO320, Handheld. The 8fps is a wonder. In this pic (succeeding from the one I posted above) I can see that subject just came out from a foreground object and still the AF tracking never got off a bit. The behaviour with my 50D was a bit different. When I was tracking a tern in flight and it went behind a bush, AF went off and got the bush instead of the tern. This was the problem I had all day in Paralaya. But of course the size of the subject really matters here But wait, the succeeding frames handles the same scenario quite well. This time, the subjects are too small and the distracting foreground almost covered all the subjects. Canon 7D (Beta), 400mm f5.6L Shot @ f10, 1/1000", ISO320, Handheld. Here is a crop of the last frame. Focus is really locked on those egrets and some details are really recognizable. And lastly, I wanted to know how I can get from an 18 megapixel cam, Canon 7D (Beta), 400mm f5.6L Shot @ f5.6, 1/320", ISO320, Handheld with ledge support, subject distance around 6 meters Crop, No PP Crop, With slight sharpening.

Amazing resolving power on this one, Toto! Try converting the RAW later when a converter becomes available, and you'll see even more detail. Crop, With slight sharpening.
