Been awhile. Been occasionally birding, too, but since never got any captures of any new birds, never posted any. Well, just to keep in touch, here's some run-of-the-mill birds in last week's quick sortie at Subic. Tough sneaking in between rains. All shot with: Canon 40D + Canon 400mmL + Kenko 1.4xTC manual focus, manual exposure
First, a devil-may-care Philippine Serpent Eagle. Just sitting there as I was driving by. Wish he perched on something more natural. Shot while I was in a joggling car with the lens at an odd angle on my side mirror. Flew away as I got out for better shot. Philippine (Crested) Serpent EagleISO 160, f8.0, 1/50s
Then, a Green Imperial Pigeon. Long-shot but still better than my past photos of this bird. Green Imperial PigeonISO 160, f8.0, 1/200s
A pair of Tarictics stayed long enough for some OK shots. Tough getting that feather detail with overbright background. Male Tarictic HornbillISO 160, f8.0, 1/200s Female Tarictic HornbillISO 160, f8.0, 1/200s
Finally, a Barred Rail crossed my path on my way home. Barred RailISO 160, f8.0, 1/125s Well, in these rainy days, we all try to make do with what we can get.

Very nice captures of different kind of birds including male and female Tarictic. Do the guards still stop birders from going in to the Botanical Garden? Well done Ding. Mabuhay.

Never went into the Botanical Garden myself. Maybe I should try that one time. I always went into the roads leading to Hill 394 which goes past the Botanical Garden. BTW, the roads have recently been cleared of overgrown "talahib" (tallgrass). That's probably why there weren't many birds as they've been spooked recently by grass cutters. On the way back, a very friendly Aeta Ranger hitched a ride with me. It was a blast talking to these simple folk who care for our forests.

Brings back memories of the time when I birded with The Mastah in Subic. Wonderful place, excellent for birding indeed, and with Ka Mastah Romy showing me the ropes, heck, those were the best birding days of my life! :-)
