As much as I am looking forward to this trip and the testing of the 7D, I believe the rain will continue until the weekend. This is one time that I wish I am wrong. Candaba where the rest house of the Mayor is will surely be muddy even if the rain stops tomorrow as there will be not enough time to dry up.

Wooohooo!! Looks like clear weather on Friday and Saturday!! Yes Neon, clear weather in waist deep water. You don't have ABS-CBN there do you?, Candaba is a disaster area. Even Paralaya might be in deep waters too.

The reason I placed a dancing sunflower there is I think the weather will ease up a bit this coming few days, except perhaps for brief regular rainshowers. ;D
From the TV images in this evening's news, we have to accept the sad fact that Simang is a goner as far as this field test schedule is concerned. We can hike a few km to the big pond, but the waters around will be so deep that not much birds will be seen.
OTOH, Paralaya is not so bad during floods because the road is the only place above the water in the wetlands, and birds tend to forage and congregate here under such condition.
The only variable now is whether the low point along the road near the cemetery en route to Paralaya is passable to vehicles (I think it will be if there are no heavy rains the next couple of days). I will text Ka Leny tomorrow morning to confirm this.

Even Paralaya might be in deep waters too. You'll be surprised, "Bandila" is show everyday at 5am in the morning..hehehe. As Ka Mastah have speculated Paralaya should be good with 2 days of respite from rains as it drains pretty well. Lighting is whole day as the road is traversing N-S. ;D Waiting excitedly for your test results.

UPDATE - 11:05 AM SEPT. 10TH1. We're a GO for Paralaya on Fri (11th) and Saturday (12th). 2. Meet-up for the Friday Group is Total Gas Station at NLEX just before the San Simon exit, at 5 am tomorrow (Sept. 11th). 3. Meet-up for the Saturday Group is on the discretion of Toto G. I'll stay in the area overnight and will be at Paralaya first light Saturday morning. Toto should advise me via SMS on their ETA at Paralaya, so we can synch scheds. 4. I was scheduled last week by JayR R. to pick up the 7D this afternoon at CMPI. I'm trying to contact him this morning but he's not responding (he could be in a meeting). Nonetheless, I'll be at CMPI at the appointed time, and I expect that everything will go as scheduled. I'll send a confirming SMS later to all concerned when I get my hands on the camera. 5. Note that Paralaya is almost shadeless, so wear the appropriate attire and bring a lot of drinking water. Birding is whole day for both Friday and Saturday.

Saturday Group Updates
I have coordinated with Norman, Alain and Den already and the suggestion was to meet at Mcdo Quezon Avenue/EDSA/MRT Station @ 4:30AM, this coming Saturday.
Alain, told me Olan will be joining us too. We hope to be in the site by 6AM rain or shine. Alain will guide the group to Paralaya.
I will text you Mastah if there are changes decided by the group. No text means no changes as I might be disturbing your sleep in Paralaya by then ;D We will contact you as soon as we are in the site already.

Here's a well-acclaimed short piece, filmed by the group of Jason Magbanua with the same pre-prod 7D that we will field test.

Gotta hand it to those guys - they're good at what they do! And to think they filmed all that with a single DSLR standing in for a video unit is even more of an achievement. Kudos to Jason and his team. :-)

SWEET PRE-PRODUCTION 7D. According to folks from Canon Philippines, they got only one test unit of this baby. It came in packed in the now familiar white box, similar to the pre-production 5D2 we tried last year. ;D

I was privilege to join Romy together with Bong, Mando, and Rey in testing the 7D. I had the chance to test it but I trust Romy will do a better job with it so I let him test it on my 800mm. While he was testing it I was able to use the 400mm f5.6 of Mando. It is so light in weight(2.8 pounds) that I could shoot the bird right on the red dot. I never thought it was that easy to shoot BIF. Than I tried the workhorse of Romy's 500 f4. It is 8.5 pounds without the 1.4 extender. It was manageable but not easy. I would prefer something lighter. I know Romy did an extensive test on the 7D. I believe he will let us know the test result as soon as he completes it. There is another group joining him tomorrow and than he will also test it in his own way when he comes back. A lot of people are waiting for his opinion before they even think of buying one. I know we can count on his opinion but the final decision is still ours to make.
