This is a tiny bird, around 5 inches tall. It also runs away really fast. I decided to show the quail in its environment. In this picture you can see the actual size of the bird, its just about as tall as the small blade of carabao grass and slightly bigger than the leaves on the ground. Its coloring also helps it stay hidden. I took this bird on our second day in Palawan. Another photo lifer. Yay! Barred Buttonquail, female Tunix suscitatorCanon 400mm + 1.4x tc; ISO 400; f8; 1/250, manual focus

Wow ... great capture Tonji. For every shot you make with that 400mm, my desire to finally have my lens becomes very excruciating.

Thanks Toto and Ely. Toto I am sure you will take lots of great pics with your new lens!
Thanks Romy, I had the 1.4x tc on at the time we saw the quails. No time to remove it. So one hand on the lens to focus and one on the trigger while the quail zigged and zagged. Haha. That gimbal head works.

Good catch of this very elusive bird. Saw it there only once and tried to look for it everytime we pass by the farm but it's always a no-show.

Thanks vin, Martin, Rey. I was lucky with this one. It was not for the lack of subject matter, I think we saw 7 quails in our 1.5 days of birding. The rest of them were too fast, this is what we sounded like when we saw a quail" OMG...arrrghh.....ay...ay...its gone." Hehe. Rey, this shot is by the farm area.
