We saw this little fellow along a fast running stream. It was our second day of birding. The bird did not want us to approach too near. Initially I thought it was a common kingfisher but was a darker color and it had blue ear coverts. Its a good thing it was a male, the female would have been hard to ID, hehe. Its a very small and colorful bird. It was over the water so we could not get any closer without being seen. This was both a lifer and a photo lifer for us. ;D ;D Blue-eared Kingfisher, Alcedo menintingCoron, Palawan August 14, 2009 400mm + 1.4x tc; ISO 400, f8, 1/30, manual focus 400mm + 1.4x tc ; ISO 400, f8, 1/15, manual focus

Sayang. It looks like its a beautiful bird. At least you got to see it and took a picture of it. I did not know that such a bird even existed. Maybe next time. Well done Tonji. Mabuhay.

Wow!! awesome captures!! I had the pleasure of seeing this species at Sabang but the light under the canopy of the mangroves was too dark. I'll try to get it next time. ;D

Wow, wonderful catch Tonji, colors are so vivdly beautiful. Didn't even saw this when I was there. Just with this catch, the trip is all worthwhile. Now I have a good reason to come back. Did you get this at the Governor's resort?

Thanks Ely, Neon, Romy, Elvin, Toto and Rey.
Neon, I did not see this bird in Sabang. When are you going back to Sabang?
Rey, we saw the bird along the big stream/ river near Mulawin's place. It was early morning. I think we will go back in December and stay for a much longer time.

Thanks Mark and Ron. Ron if you want to see another kind of KF then go to Mt. Palay Palay or Caylabne and you will see lot of White-throated Kingfishers. They are usually on the phone lines.
