This was taken when Tonji and I went to Mt. Palay Palay last month. Tonji spotted this bird sitting on a wire. I didn't think it would make a good picture, since we were in the car and stopped right underneath it. But, I ended up being very happy with the results! This makes me think that there's really nothing like being very near the subject to improve a bird photo! 1/400, f8.0, iso 200 1/400, f8.0, iso 200 Canon 50d + Canon 100-400

Very good feather details Sylvia, the white throat is very visible, good exposure despite the harsh light.

Wow! So that's why it was labelled "White-Throated!" Thanks Sylvia for having that nice pic that shows why! Congrats!

Thanks again Edu! And thank you Mark and Alain! Yup, the bird's white throat isn't its most obvious feature.. but there it is in the name. According to a book that I have (Sibley's Birding Basics), a lot of birds were named over 100 years ago when it was common to shoot them and study the dead specimen. So, a lot of birds are named after characteristics that would be obvious IF you were holding the specimen in your hand but are sometimes even impossible to see in the field.

wow wow shot. The photo adage saying "if your picture is not good enough, then you are not close enough" rings true again. Its just me--can you please out the shadowy line/wire?

Wow!! Really detailed well exposed shots!! Nice Job, Sylvia ;D wow wow shot. The photo adage saying "if your picture is not good enough, then you are not close enough" rings true again. Its just me--can you please out the shadowy line/wire? Ron was referring to the shadow wire near the tail. I did the honors and used the "clone stamp tool" to take it out, since the BG is easy to clone ;D, Sorry, getting desperate already..hehehehe

Thanks Ron and Neon! About the wire .. yes, Tonji also wanted me to clone it out because it was bothering him! But, I was too lazy to do it. He also wanted me to unsharp mask, but I didn't bec I was happy with it already. I guess I tend to under-post process. Thanks for cloning it Neon. Now that I see it this way, it does look better without that 2nd wire in the background.

I always see the WTKF in Palay Palay. None of my pictures come close to what you have taken. Well done Sylvia. Mabuhay.
Looking forward to see the pictures that you & Tonji took recently.
