Posting this Great Bittern, Botaurus stellaris taken last November 26, 2002 at Lala, Lanao del Norte. This bird was sitting on its 2 eggs when photographed. Nikon N2020, Nikkor 35-70mm

I am always fascinated with nesting birds. Did you get to see the eggs hatch and take pictures of the fledglings? They always look so beautiful with their mouths wide open waiting for food. Well done Elvin. Mabuhay.

I wasn't able to get a picture of the hatchlings because when I returned back to the site they all were gone. I'm pretty sure they did make it because of the egg shells I found in the nest.

Another rarity from you, Elvin. I'm always on the look out for this shy, big bittern, just in case it crosses my path in some remote wetlands.
