Hi
I hope this is the correct area to post this question.
I recently obtain a tripod and a Gimbal to use it with my EF 500mm f/4.0L IS Autofocus Lens. Before that, I always use a monopod with the lens.
Here is my question: Should I use Image Stabilization (IS) even if I use the lens over a gimbal on a tripod?
Thanks for any help and sorry about my english (I'm a spanish speaker).
Saludos, Rene

Hi Rene, Yes, the IS of the 500 f4 IS is already tripod-ready. At static targets, I always have IS on (mode 1) whether hand holding, using a bean bag, a monopod or a tripod/gimbal head. The only times I turn off the IS are: 1. flight shots when the shutter speed is very fast (1/focal length or faster). 2. slow shutter speed shots (1/40 or slower), where I prefer to use MLU or Live View shooting. At flyers using a slow shutter speed (circa 1/20 -1/125 sec) to blur the BG via panning, I turn on IS mode 2. Romy Hi I hope this is the correct area to post this question.
