this was taken with a camera phone by an officemate they were in the 2nd floor "balcony" of anvaya's main clubhouse and chanced upon this nest with these 2 babies... they reported and showed this pic to me 2 weeks afterwards and upon that time, i only saw an empy nest already. any chance for a positve ID? my guess is YVB? as those are the birds that frequent the bamboo clusters around the main clubhouse paviliion

Doesn't it look like a fantail's nest? Cup shaped, very neat. telyd

I would guess a YVB. A YVB pair used to nest in one of our ficus tree in our house in the Philippines. The nest is deep, neat and perfectly round inside just like in the photo. But then again, I don't know if some birds make the same nests.

But then again, I don't know if some birds make the same nests. Hi Eric, These 2 nests are believed to be be that of the YVB. I've seen these nests and they are wider and shallower inside. The nest is a mixture of different materials. The fantail's nest is more cup like, deep inside, smaller in diameter and the ones I have seen are purely grass. If this nest is cup size, I'd say it is the nest of a fantail. Also, if these nestlings I posted are YBS, it is good to note that they both have 3 occupants. (two fledgelings were outside the nest clucthing the reed). I dunno about fantails. We can check previous posts. I know Nilo Arribas has some shots. The best is actually to monitor the area. Let's wait and see. telyds

Hi TeLyds. Thanks for your other nest photos. Maybe the YVBs that nested in our ficus tree were O.C.'s. Hehehe.... ;D
The "white band" is the gape that is usually found in young birds. It "stimulates" the parent birds to feed the nestlings.
