Another video-lifer for me from yesterday's visit to Mt. Makiling. ;D It's tough to get the white balance right in mixed lighting. The BG was lit by the setting sun reflected off the sky, while the bird was in deep, dark shade. Each situation requires a vastly differing WB value. In stills, one can convert the RAW twice - one for the BG and the other for the bird/perch, then blend the two in PP so that each portion that used a different available light would have the right WB. In video, it's next impossible. Common name : Spotted Wood-KingfisherScientific name: Actenoides lindsayi (a Philippine endemic, male) Habitat: Understory of lowland forest, perches motionless in dark recesses. Total length: 254 mm. CAPTURE INFORMATION: Mt. Makiling, Philippines, June 10, 2009, Canon 5D2 (FW 1.1.0) + Sigmonster (Sigma 300-800 DG)+ Sennheiser MKE 400 mic, 800 mm, Manfrotto 475B/3421 support, manual expsoure in available light, f/7.1, 1/30 sec, ISO 3200, 1920x1080 capture processed and resized to 1280x720, noise/hiss in audio cleaned up a bit.

Great video of a hard to find Kingfisher. Congratulations Romy. We are so fortunate that we have someone like you and Neon who would go to all the tedious video processing and share it with us at the Forum. Thank you. Mabuhay.

Thanks, Manny, Ely and Mark! Great video of a hard to find Kingfisher. Congratulations Romy. Yup, video processing is so much more tedious than photo processing. I've yet to edit the more complex clips from this sortie, as I'm still thinking of the optimum cutting approach to the many minutes of footage. I've deeper respect now to folks who make movies. ;D
