while on vacation in anvaya enroute to ocean adventure, i glanced upon this bird suddenly drop down to the ground from atop the electric pole. not knowing what it was, i stopped to take a look. after a few seconds it re-appeared from the grass, crossed the road and perched atop this tree stump. took some safety shots in jpeg, switched to manual exposure, switched to RAW+jpeg, moved the car a bit and finally nailed several shots. after only a few seconds, it flew away. (+40 shots taken in a matter of about 3 minutes, only 1 good one) nikon d200 + nikkor 80-400VR @ 400mm manual expsoure handheld iso 400, f8, 1/80s

no offense intended Manny but is it just me or the tail feathers of the fist picture looks pretty tattered?

thanks marts! none taken jun. don't think its tattered but rather extremely ruffled as it just emerged from a possible "kill". we saw it dive down from the top of the electric pole straight to the grass/brushy areas, perhaps in search of food.

"Chance favors only the prepared mind." Louis Pasteur has said this. Oldies always have this in their minds. Congratulations!

OMG... this is soooo beautiful!!! This happens to be one of my favorite raptors, but am still confused on how to differentiate the Spilornis Cheela and the Spilornis Holospilus
