Sylvia and I finally got pictures of Grass Owls in Manila Bay last weekend. We have wanted a picture since we saw a Grass Owl in the lot beside our house several months ago. I was smiling when I took this photo. ;D It was near sunset and it had just rained. 400mm, ISO 640, 1/640, f5.6 Sylvia took this picture in the morning of the second day. Sylvia's setup 50D 400 5.6, ISO 200, 1/400, f7.1 The owl was so close it was almost like macro photography. Hehe. 400mm, ISO 640, 1/640, f5.6 We now have 142 photo lifers just 472 to go! We have a few more pictures of the Grass Owls in our website: tonjiandsylviasbirdlist.smugmug.com/gallery/8457753_L5PQr/1/557917361_RQRbE#557917361_RQRbE

What a beauty! Excellent photography!
Do the owls habitually fly by in that area? If you say yes, I predict a horde of us will be there the next afternoon.

Great shots Sylvia & Tonji. It is times like this that I wish I also have a short lens. But we all know that in life one can't have everything so I will just stick to my long lens. Thank you for sharing your pictures. It is a joy to see how lovely our local birds can be. Mabuhay.

TeLyds, glad you liked the owls. We really want to do BK valley soon. We will coordinate with you when we are free. We are going to Palawan tomorrow morning, and will be there for 5 days. Enjoy your weekend, lets hope for better weather this week. Hi Ed, Ding, Binot, Ely, and Toto. Thanks for the nice comments. I hope you guys get great pics this weekend. I read in Phil Inquirer that 11 Phil Scops owls were released in Mt. Makiling. Lets hope they do well in the forest. newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/regions/view/20090608-209400/22-raptors-returned-to-Makiling-wild

Excellent OIFs, Sylvia and Tonji! This owl species is a joy to photograph when it's hunting..... sometimes, it gets so curious that it circles the shooter, giving some photogenic eye contact.

Thanks Edu and Mark. Romy, yup you are right the bird actually would go nearer us until it was too close. I guess they are curious birds. It was one of the most fun bird shoots. Two birders with super big smiles after those captures.

Thanks Conrad, William, Manny and Tina.
Glad you guys like the pics. We are still in Palawan. Weather is perfect. So many birds, so many lifers and so many what the heck is that bird moments.
Sylvia is presently doing a 3 hour hike with our daughter in the hills and will certainly see all sorts of birds. I am resting up to photograph some new to us birds near the area of the resort.
We love it here but are super tired everyday with all the early morning till evening birding. We go out everyday and take so many pics. This is a superb place. I may never bird in Alabang again, haha! ;D
