I suggest you get either a 1DM2 or 1DM2n - a good used copy is now a terrific value, I've seen some go as low as USD 1300-1400 for the non-N.

Agree with the Mastah but I will try to get the 1DM2N, you get a bigger LCD and a bigger buffer size. I myself is still in the lookout for one.

MarkIII is supposed to be better but there's a lot of units that have AF problems that it's quite risky to get one at the moment.
