Just got my 50D yesterday and here's the outcome (brought it right away at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, not minding to set the date): a gull handheld with the 100-400L IS, ISO 400, 1/1600 sec/ f6.3, minimal PP on CS2 and a young deer on monopod, ISO 640, 1/250 sec. and I got 15 days to decide whether to keep or return it. What d'you think, guys? By the way, here's some harvest at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary on recent days: (30D+100-400L IS) saw-whet owl bald eagle a great blue heron at Nose Hill Park: warblers and at the frontyard (home) this time with the 5D+600mm: blue jay a common grackle american robin a male house finch a chipping? sparrow Thanks for viewing, guys!

The almost noiseless Deer shot on ISO640 convinced me to get one too ED, not unless you remove most of it with CS2. By the way, great harvest in the bird sanctuary ED, I like the Common Grackle the most.

Looks like a keeper Ed. Didn't know that there's a blue jay in Alberta, I thought they can only be found in the east. The sparrow looks like a juvenile white-crowned sparrow to me. Not the best, but this is an example I found in my HD, taken 2 weekends ago. I thought this is a pair, but I read that adult male and females are the same. So the one with the brown stripes must be a juvenile. *edit* Affirmative. The eye stripe through the eyes of a chipping sparrow reach the bill, while the juvenile white-crown does not.

Great shots, Ed! Agree with Ted on the juvenile White-crowned. Are you also getting the 5D MK II (which would be released in November)

For what the 50D offers pricewise I don't think you can really go wrong with it. The 5DMkII is a sweet camera but it's at least doubled the price, I guess if you have the $$$ go for both
