;D
Here I am again, posting images of poor quality, but I try to make it up by posting behavior shots.
Went to Subic yesterday (June 1) even if there was an LPA forecasted. Could not reach Hill 394 as the gate going there was closed so I had to make do with the nearby area and the botanical garden. Yes it was raining, and it was FUN!
Saw a lot of birds, got pics of most of them, none are worth posting here.
Birds I saw and took pics of:
Blue-throated Bee-eater, Crows, White-throated Kingfisher, Coleto, crested myna, white-bellied woodswallow, Philippine Coucal, emerald dove (I think)
Birds I saw (a bit but could not photograph:
Hornbill (it flew away), greater flameback, Philippine pygmy woodpecker, and there was one that looked like and sounded a bit like a giant pied fantail???
Well anyways, here is a small set of pics of a Blue-throated
I found it feeding some younglings in its nest. I did not approach the nest. I can live without a photo of a nest if to have one I had to disturb them.
I observed that the adult bird would go out, perch on a high place, stay there for a bit, then disappear. Then after a few minutes, it comes back with an insect in its beak. But it does not go straight to the nest. It goes to its high perch first, stays there and looks around (probably to see if there are predators around) then.. flies down to a lower perch, nearer the nest and does the same thing. It looks left and right then after a while, proceeds to feed the young ones.
It repeated this a few times (if you can see in the pic, it had three kinds of bugs) and I think it is it's feeding pattern. Then... there was this one time, when the adult was at its high-perch with a dragonfly in its beak, three white-breasted woodswallows harassed it in mid-air and chased it in circles until the bee-eater gave up the insect.
I had a wonderful time watching this and also had a great time photographing a kingfisher eating it's lunch (a lizard)
*All images were taken with a Nikon D60 and a Sigma 70-300 at ISO100 and 5.6 with shutter speeds varying from 1/20 to 1/300, handheld as I brought my tripod BUT forgot to bring the camera's tripod shoe ;D
I had a great time there and I hope you guys also have a nice time looking at these pics. Thank you for looking!
