Wow! That's been my target bird in Boso-boso. Was it in the same place/brook we always staked out?
Congrats, teLyd!

Very nice Telyds. Thanks for taking us in that very nice birding place. My photos of the Pitta showed that it's carrying about 5 or 6 earthworms which most probably is food for the hatchlings. That's the reason why it keeps going back to get more worms from the creek. I suspect the nest is just at the back of the wood cuttings. So this means we can setup somewhere along the usual path it takes to the and from the river and get a lot of shooting opportunities. LIke I said the Pitta is the flavor of the month.

Wow! That's been my target bird in Boso-boso. Was it in the same place/brook we always staked out? Congrats, teLyd! Thanks Tina, Ka Romy and Toto. Yes, Ding, same area. Rey and I have esablished the path of this bird. There are actually 2 of them. The caretakers also said that sometimes there are 4 them feeding on the African nightcrawlers, the vermi-composting area of Flor. Rey had enough of this bird in Coron that he chose to exchange calls with the melodious Flycatcher which responded well and came out in the open. Watch out for Rey's post. Here's another shot. It was not in the river. Perla and I were sitting on a wooden bench in the garden and it was in front of us with a beakfull of crawlies. It did that a couple of times, coming and going. It is his favorite spot. This is one bird that is guaranteed to be seen in the place. Rey, I may be in the area tomorrow morning but not that early. I'll go with Flor. telyd

What time does the bird show? I would say that the bird can be seen the wholeday because it's feeding the hatchlings. Problem is Telyds will not arrive early and we can't get inside until she's arrives. I don't even have her confirmation if she will really go there tomorrow morning. I hope she will.

Let me start by warning Neon that viewing this thread may be hazardous for him!All photos shot with: Canon EOS40D + Canon 400mm 5.6L + Kenko 1.4X TC Benro tripod + Benro gimbal head Manual exposure, manual focus------------------- 'Twas a wonderful, wonderful day at the faraway land of Boso-boso where birds are a-twitter upon a brook that's a-glimmer as they wake up the forest to rise to a... wonderful, wonderful day. Hardy peasants TeLyd, Rey, and Ely, trotted in early, ignoring the orioles, white-eyes, bulbuls (which were a-plenty), for they had a much loftier target: the Hooded Pitta! As the happy company waited, the local-folk, singing most mightily endearing songs, engaged them. First, the Elegant Tits chirped "Hello!" f8, 1/50s, ISO320Even the lady Indigo-banded Kingfisherdropped by for a quick pose. The canopy was too dim and the lady perched a far too demure distance away far for a clean image but we appreciated the visit, nonetheless. f8, 1/25s, ISO160f8, 1/20s, ISO640A pair of Black-naped Monarchs also took a peek. First, gentleman Monarch. f8, 1/50s, ISO320Then the lady. f8, 1/30s, ISO640 Both too shy to stay for a sharp portrait. And, of course, the prize of the day, the Hooded Pitta repeatedly came in and flew away, picking up some grub and scurrying it away to some happy nest. f8, 1/20s, ISO320f8, 1/20s, ISO640

Wow, what a bountiful harvest for such a short stint. The storytelling is almost as wonderful as the fine images. Big Congrats Ding. Like we said the Hooded Pitta is 100% guaranteed. Let's wait for Ely's captures, I'm sure he's got some beautiful images as well.
