I took these small birds the last few days. I am really enjoying the 100-400 lens, thanks Romy for suggesting I get this lens. I have been taking everything handheld, experimenting with the best settings. The Olive-backed Sunbirds were taken yesterday in Ixi's place. Thank you Ixi for saving our rained out photo outing. The white eye was taken in Alabang. Tonji, these are the type of pictures that I like to be able to take and produce. You have certainly gotten the hang of your new camera. You and your camera have become one. You can make it do exactly what you want it to do. Congratulations. Well done. Mabuhay!!!

Ely, I have had my camera and lens for two weeks. I hope these pictures help your decision making about your lens question. Martin, ack small birds are tough but offer great rewards. I do enjoy taking small birds more cause at least I have an excuse why its not a nice shot. Hehe. Tina, thank you. Hey! We saw the Pita and the Philippine Trogon and still you are not satisfied. Its tough to please you. Kidding aside, great idea to go to Ixi's and take the Olive Back Sunbirds. You know its ideas like that make you the Yoda. Thanks Edu. It has been difficult for me to get a nice picture of this bird even if it sometimes shows up on our street. Lucky to get pics I like of the male and female in one day.

Wow.... exceptional captures, Tonji! What's great about the 100-400 are the IS and close focusing - you can really stalk small birds sans a cumbersome tripod.

You are so lucky to see them perch on your street. The sunbirds here perch on antennae (CB Radio) guy wires and are sooooo up there!

Romy, yup you can get closer to the birds with the 100-400. I have actually tried some marco shots, so cool. Thanks for the comments and for the recommendation. Edu, the Olive-backed Sunbirds were taken near Mt. Makiling in Ixi's place. We have them flying around here but these two were practically posing for us. The white eye travels in groups here and they like certain plants. It seems they eat little worms and also fruit. On this plant I've seen them eating worms. On what the locals call rubber tree they seem to be eating the fruit. Good luck with the birds.
