Canon 40D 300mm F4 L - handheld ISO 400 As soon as I arrived Mt. Banahaw, the local kids immediately pointed out to me a family of yellowish white eye, the chick starting to learn how to fly. It kept falling to the ground. The second photo shows the parents with food in their beaks looking for their little chickadee that fell down the tall grass. It was a perfect time to video... but I did not have a video and I did not have a good angle. But here they are. lyd

This is just SO CUTE! I agree with Tina and Mark! Awww, it kept falling? On the ground?? Gosh, is THAT how birds learn to fly? Sounds so dangerous and painful!

Beautiful shots!
You said the chick kept falling. Did the parents carry them back up to the branches? Looks like a pretty heavy chick to me.

I like the pic with the fuzzy chick. So, they start out with a black eye, which turns white later. Cool to know. Thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you guys! Actually, these birds were so close but they kept on moving and are usually hidden by leaves. Yes, the tiny bird falls deep in the grass and the parent birds hover around it . It is able to come out and successfully flies too, but short distances only. Hmmm, I think I am going back tomorrow to see how they are.

Thanks Martin, Edu and Ka Mastah. Haay naku Martin, now that the Mastah had mentioned that this may be a first in-habitat-photo, I should have exerted more effort in pinning this little one. It was just there tumbling, not noticing how it goes back to the trees, confused whether it is the tiny one or older one... for sure there were three of them. I went back to the place yesterday, the chickadee is flying free already. telyd
