When we heard that Tina and Wency were going back to the Sierra Madre, we JUMPED at the chance to go with them! Yey, thank you Tina and Wency! I am SO GLAD I got to see the Black Naped Monarch and and all those other birds that you saw on that other trip with Neon! The plan was to go only until Nueva Ecija as the roads beyond that (towards Aurora) are very rough. It was a really wonderful and enjoyable birding trip. There are a lot of flowering trees along the side of the road and the views along the mountain are spectacular. I also really enjoyed being able to photograph the small, quick birds since I used a camera and lens instead of digiscoping. I can auto-focus now! Woo hoo!! ;D Black Naped Monarch feeding her chicks! iso 1000, 5.6, 1/80 Black Naped Monarch iso 1000, 5.6, 1/80 Buzzing Flowerpecker iso 640, 6.3, 1/320 Really Cute Buzzing Flowerpecker with an Ant iso 640, 5.6, 1/320 Two Yellowish White Eyes iso 250, 5.6, 1/200 Yellowish White Eye with Baby iso 640, 13, 1/320 A Pair of Elegant Tits iso 250, 5.6, 1/125 Mangrove Blue Flycatcher iso 640, 5.6, 1/100 Canon 50D + 400 mm lens Here's a link to our Sierra Madre gallery on smugmug tonjiandsylviasbirdlist.smugmug.com/gallery/8097607_YLZ4W/1/527951658_VYWGF

Wow bountiful harvest Sylvia. I also got the Buzzing FP in that road and it's not an easy catch, these birds are so tiny. The Monarch is so nice also. Very fine work Sylvia.

Thank you Romy, Neon, Tina, Rey, and Edu! I'm SOOO happy with my pictures! Thanks so much for the wonderful comments!! Neon -- I didn't see the Pygmy. Only Buzzing, Orange-Bellied, and Olive-Backed. The Buzzing Flowerpeckers would fly in with the Yellowish White Eyes.

I just took a better look at the photos and I really need more practice! It took me a while to see the second Elegant Tit! haha! Also, that FlowerPecker with the ant, even if that ant is huge, using it as scale for the size of the bird, I don't think I will be able to spot the FP on my own! The skill involved here is commendable! And lastly, I love the two white-eyes.. while looking at the picture, I was thinking these two were looking at the same thing and wondering which is better, Portrait or Landscape.

What a haul - Sylvia! I'm still trying to figure out the plant where you shot the PF. It's interesting and looks familiar. It can be a lovely addition to an endemic-themed garden.
I like the BF and the Mangrove Blue of this set.
Envious in Quezon.

Thank you so much for the great feedback! Thanks Carmela, Telyds, William, Edu, Alain, Mark, Bob, Ed and Ely!!
Edu -- I agree! The hardest part of bird photography is spotting the birds! Good thing Tonji is very good at spotting! And of coure, Tina is great!
BTW -- if anyone is looking for the Oriental Skylark, we also saw 2 of those in the rice field part before the mountain. I remember Carmela trying to show those to us in Quezon and Neon trying to photograph those in San Juan Batangas. They are really cute birds!
