Mt wife and I were taking a break from birding and having a tail-gate snack party when this roadrunner came scurrying by, picked-up a dead gecko and scooted off, giving me time for only a couple of shots. Good thing my camera gear was next to me but I was not able to change the settings when I took these shots. Greater Road-runner 40D, 500mm+1.4X, ISO-500, 1/800, f10, tripod+gimbal head, raw picking up the gecko (same settings)

Incredible shot Bob. Were you that close to the road runner seeming the tail feather was out of frame?

How appropriate. a roadrunner shot on a concrete background.
I heard that a roadrunners will not shy away from a rattlesnake. As a matter of fact. the rattlesnakes are afraid of roadrunners.

"The comical roadrunner prefers running to flying and has been clocked at speeds of 15 miles per hour. They are approximately 22 inches in length and their diet consists of insects, lizards, centipedes, mice and snakes." With a blink, you could have missed and hear the road-runner say "Eat my dust!" Great shot Bob! Like you, I live with my camera beside me. It is almost a sin. telyds

I like the second shot with a caption "I'm lovin' it". Great shots though on both, Bob!

Incredible shot Bob. Were you that close to the road runner seeming the tail feather was out of frame? yes, it was quite close. besides the roadrunner is quite a big bird. also, i'm ashamed to admit, i was too excited to frame the bird properly. things just happened too fast ;D

Wonderful captures Bob!! Looks like it was taken sometime around noon, you really controlled the exposure on this one. it was about 11 am. actually i just got lucky on the exposure. i still had my settings geared for forest photography (note the high ISO). @everybody..thanks for your comments. i have a blog that tells the story about this roadrunner. please check it out: ornithographer.blogspot.com/2009/04/meals-interrupted.html

Great catch Bob.
The first time I saw one was last year, around this time of the year at Newport Beach.
Hard to capture one with limited reach, as it's hard to get near within it's comfort zone.
It really is an interesting bird.
