Finally nailed some of these recently-frequent albeit transient neighbors of mine. Imagine me doing the happy Snoopy dance! Really tough to get these birds. They only stay about 5-10mins in one tree and less than a few seconds in a branch, mostly under dark canopy so had to wrestle with manual focus as I continually had to adjust the best ISO (which usually end up too high for razor sharp shots). Enough excuses! Here are the photos: Chestnut-cheeked StarlingSturnus philippensis1/25s, f/8, ISO320 1/60s, f/8, ISO640 1/40s, f/8, ISO640 1/40s, f/8, ISO640 All photos taken with: Canon EOS40D + Canon 400mmL + Kenko 1.4xTC Benro tripod and gimbal support manual focus, manual exposure

That is a beautiful Bird. Considering the effort & time, you have reason to celebrate. Beautiful capture. Congratulations Ding.

You are so blessed to have wildlife visit your neighborhood and some birding buddies, too. There's nothing like good fellowship with all kinds of creatures. Tely:D

Amazing indeed!

Nice captures in difficult low light which became more difficult because of the manual focusing of very active subjects. Congrats Ding.

They returned this morning! But much fewer this time. Counted 6 females and 2 males (lucky guys!). As usual, arrived when still way too dark to shoot at a sweet ISO. Will wait again tomorrow morning. Sorry, Neon. Contemplated calling you but even if you were Schumacher driving a Ferrari, you still wouldn't make it before the birds disappeared.

Nice captures, Ding. Tough to get a good one in such situations even with AF and yet you manage to do so in MF. Hope they return again with good light.
