Last January 5, 2009, I, with two cousins, went to explore Bangrin Coastal Mangrove Protected Area in San Miguel and Aporao, Bani, Pangasinan. This is one of the 13 birding places featured in the DOT-WBCP-ROX's book Birdwatching in the Philippines volume 1.
In going there, one should coordinate with the Office of the Mayor of Bani, Pangasinan so arrangements may be made for bancas to transport people to the protected area. When I was there, I was fortunate enough to talked to Mayor Marcelo Navarro, Jr. who was also there birdwatching. He said he can host bird photographers from our group who want to explore the area and photoshoot some birds, with a request that the pictures taken can be used by the LGU to promote its ecotourism program that involves the sanctuary.
The 54-hectare mangrove forest is said to host 37 species of migratory birds and thousands of them flock during the migration period.
Here are some pics of the place:

Here are some pictures of the birds that I have taken there:

Canon 400D 100-400mm 1/400 f/6.3 ISO100
Canon 400D 100-400mm 1/400 f/5.6 ISO400
Canon 400D 100-400mm 1/125 f/11.0 ISO200
Canon 400D 100-400mm 1/320 f/6.3 ISO1600
Canon 400D 100-400mm 1/60 f/5.6 ISO400

These pics of the birds are taken aboard a banca with no katig on both sides, and handheld. The bantay-dagat in the area navigated our banca inside and around the mangrove area.
Happy viewing!
