Congrats Bob! These females are hard to ID. I need to study the pix hard to see what color is on there aside from green, and sometimes the shape of the bill will give a clue too. If you see the male, then ID'ing the female is easy.
Love the BG.
Tins, go to Arizona. It's a hummingbird pathway. Well, depends on the season din pala.
Last year, I only saw two species of hummers in my backyard, Anna's and black-chinned. But they said there's Allen's and sometimes Costas too.
I started sanitizing my hummingbird feeder with bleach yesterday (I lost one due to the storms). Hopefully I can get it in time to attract the hummers. But I wish I can plant some interesting flowering plants, as the feeders are getting boring.
These birds are a pleasure to have around and watching them is always fun.

Thanks for your nice comments, Ed, Jun, Tina and Ted.
Tins, I only saw three kinds: Anna's, Allen's and Rufous which are the common ones you'll find in Southern California. Three others, Black-chinned, Costa's and Calliope also occur here but are quite rare.
As Ted said, Arizona is the place for hummers, especially during summer when as many as 13 species can be seen in one place in one day. (most I saw was 11 in one day).
