hi horukuru,
From a newbie's point of view (mine) I would say it will depend on the bird that you want to shoot. Over here in the Phil, winter months (when birds from colder countries migrate to Asia) are pretty good seasons for capturing photos of migratory birds like ducks etc.
But it will really depend on what bird you are "hunting" take for example the Colasisi, whose mating season is recorded to be between March and April, this would be a nice time to watch out for it. Also, I think it will also depend on the kind of behavior you want to see. if you want to see young ones and can find the nest, read up on the bird, its mating season, and it's pregnancy and hatching cycle to get an estimate of when hatch lings will be seen.
In a nutshell, choose a bird.. study its habits and "lifestyle" and then try and find it. Oh yeah, DIET also plays a big role. Seeing the kind of fruit tree that the bird prefers to eat, there is a good chance the bird will be there eating.
I hope this helps.

For endemic forest birds, many of them seem to breed at the onset of the rainy season (May - July) and thus are easier to find. However, light is often bad at this time and access to the rainforest is very tough.
For your first visit, I'd suggest an easier season - summer, or anytime from January to March. There are less rains and the migrants are around. You can always come back for the rainy season birds in your following trips.

Thanks friends and is there any places nearby with Candaba Wetland to stay ? There are a lot of small motels (or inns) in the area, within 30 - 45 minutes drive from the swamp. Daily rates are about PHP 1200 - PHP 1500 (USD 24 - 30), excluding meals, but with AC, cable TV and hot/cold shower.

Thanks a lot Romy ! I'm planning to come probably in November or December of this year with 15 birders from Sabah hehehe. Is it a good time also time come ? November might still be rainy and Candaba not accessible. December is air travel peak season and the airports are clogged, plus the newly arrived migrants have unattractive plumage because of the migration flight. January - March is the best window, but you can also try early December.

Sorry to jump in this conversation. But I've been told not to come during the June time frame due to rainfall. Being from Vancouver, rain doesn't scare me. But how's the wildlife during this time.

Hi Jun, June to at least October is not so good birding-wise.... tough to get into the forest, the migrants aren't around and Candaba is not accessible. Most birding at this time can be done in nature resorts/parks where access is available. Many resident/endemic birds breed at around this time too, so it can be an interesting season nonetheless.

Thanks for the info. I was just asking because there is a seat sale in Vancouver. For only $650 return. The only catch is that, the departure date must be in April only. But due to company project, the only possible date for me is the last day in April. I think I'll just wait until next spring.
