Sorry, Neon. Just can't help it. Actually, it should be "The 70-200mm 2.8L Visits Subic". Noy (my better/smarter half) and I were taking her visiting sister to Tagaytay yesterday when the C5 traffic frustrated us so we made a U and drove north to Subic instead. As we were driving around the Bat Kingdom area, I noticed some movement in the trees so despite protests from my passengers, swerved, dug into my camera bag, and, since I was not geared up to go birding, pulled out the longest lens I had which was this medium zoom. First was a pair of Bar-bellied Cuckoo-shrikes: Then, a whole gang of Blue-throated Bee-eaters: Many of them were flat on their stomach on the ridge, probably atop their nests. Not sure why they do this. Protecting their young? Shielding the nest from the hot sun? Warming themselves? Or they just think it's a pretty cool thing to do? All shots: Canon EOS40D + Canon 70-200mm 2.8L Handheld

These are all awesome captures at 200mm, Ding!!
I think this behavior is a defensive act against some predator nearby that is a threat to their nestlings. Where there crows around that time? look at where the birds are looking. Or they perceive that you are the threat?

Great set Ding. Apparently you don't need a 500mm to create beautiful images.

Wow..... if somebody told me I can get amazing shots with just 200 mm, I would still have two kidneys and would've avoided a diet of instant noodles for the last 4 years! LOL
I think this behavior is a defensive act against some predator nearby that is a threat to their nestlings. Where there crows around that time? look at where the birds are looking. Or they perceive that you are the threat? The nests are by the roadside so lots of people and cars must pass close by them, I doubt if people still scare them. But there were a couple of Cuckoo-shrikes so that must've spooked them into this position.
Great set Ding. Apparently you don't need a 500mm to create beautiful images. Shhh...don't let the wife hear you, Rey.

Great details and colors Ding! I think your 70-200 f/2.8 is freak. First time I've seen super sharp images from that lens!

Thanks, guys.
I really love this lens. Superb IQ end-to-end of the zoom on both resolution and color saturation. And it's a 2.8! Perfect for kids' soccer games, recitals, and concerts.
One of these days, I also plan on doing some street shooting and this'll probably be my main lens.
