When I got back home yesterday afternoon, it was very windy and all of a sudden a black bird passed very near my head and I heard a swooshhhh as it passed by. I followed the bird with my eyes but it was really fast so I stood there watching about 3 birds that looked liked swifts or swallows but much bigger and faster. I told myself I am dreaming but what the heck ... lemme TRY to take pictures of these ultra fast birds. Ran up and got my camera and boy it was really a challenge to take photos of these birds but it's a total adrenalin rush for me ;D Here are some of the photos that I took ... This bird is a photo lifer for me - WOOOO HOOOOO !!!! Purple Needletail Hirundapus celebensis40D + EF 400mm f/5.6L ; ISO 400 ; 1/1000 ; f/6.3 ; hand-held Purple Needletail Gallery

Woohoo!! Welcome to the PNT club Plain Idol Tina!! Awesome captures of these lightning fast birds!! That swooshing is a totally different experience. I had goosebumps whenever that bird passes us overhead the last time we, Te Lyds and Ka Mastah, were in that smart tower in Bataan. This would be a real challenge to capture in HDV. ;D

This is fantastic. Just tracking this bird with the camera is one hell of a task, shooting it clearly is incredible

Doc Mando with Bong and I were watching this bird as it flies on top of the trees in MSI last Saturday, it was really a very swift flyer. Didn't have time to capture this fast flyer because it didn't stay long for me to set up my gear. Actually it's one of the easiest birds to photograph William, no sweat at all. By the way, my lens is an EFS10-22. ;D Idol Tins still quick to the draw. I'm impressed.

Thanks a lot Neon, William, Bobby, Rey and Romy This is one challenge I'd gladly do over and over again. There was a time when 2 of the birds were chasing each other unfortunately none of the pictures came out right - sigh, that would have been something else ;D

Excellent, plain idol. I haven't seen this bird yet but now I have an idea on how fast it can fly.

Yee-hah!!! Atta girl, my idol gal. I'm so happy you are up and about and doing rat-ta-tat like the Ka Mastah and Neon. Welcome to the PNT club! (He, he-- so very proud to say that). You captured it so well. Fanatically Fantastic! (I should say FaTINAcally Fantabulous).
I recall a desperate attempt I did using a wide angle macro lens to shoot these birds. I was content with shooting the shooters and then I got the crazy idea to focus on a track path and wait for them to pass by my frame. Ha, ha, ha. Gottcha! I really thought it was silly and embarassing, until the Ka Mastah approved bec. the white on the tail was showing. His requirement to be a member of the PNT Club.
I saw a pair of them in Pansol last Sunday. The weather was chilly. I thought they were swallows but they were doing acrobatic flights and swooping down so low with a zoom coursing the same path. I had no cam with me.
BTW Guaiabero guys, there are some Guaiaberos at Nielsen Donato's place in Pansol. Check his post in WBCP.
Cheering, telyd

Thanks JP and Adri. Was at it again today and this time I was blessed with blue skies Oh and while I was trying my luck with the purple needletails, this unlikely visitor passed by ... It was kinda high so this was the best picture I was able to take. It was also at a part where the sky wasn't so great looking. Osprey
