I wasn't asleep, really. It just took a lot of time for the dove to give me the pose I wanted in that angle, with just that amount of light:

Wow, that's a very nice pose indeed. I just wish a little bit of the environment was shown but that's just me, doesn't take anything away from this great capture.

Hi Bob. Napakaganda pala. Your 400mm + 2x spell magic. And your composition is superb, the capture of the plummage seldom displayed by a dove is magnificent. Master Bob ka na rin.
Ding's place is really an ideal birder's Eden. Almost in any part of Ding's house, you can birdwatch. I'd like to go there again if I already have a better set of lens.

By the way, Rey. From Bobby's position, it was very difficult to capture this dove because of the twigs or leaves around it. Bobby was actually shooting within a very small free frame space, a slight movement will ruin a part of the bird. To photo it with the surrounding will mean a dove partially covered. This is the reason why Bobby was so tightly squeezed to the post. Up from the dining/kitchen, Ding impishly took Bob's amusing posture. BTW, the view from Ding's living room and kitchen of the mountain range is really huwaw! The rainbow appeared to delight us.

Thanks for heads up Telyds, I just realized this might be a full frame shot because of the 2X TC. Mighty good IQ with a 2X TC and hand held to boot, must be very hard to eliminate the shakes. Great job Master Bobby Ordering 2X TC now

Finally got the Reddish Cuckoo-dove at Ding’s Place this morning. The lighting wasn’t ideal :(but managed to get a few shots, using low shutter speed and high ISO, before it flew off. The photo with the full body shot was really blurred so it needed a lot of surgery to get it a little bit presentable. It is a chance for me, as well, to play around with Smart sharpen filter of PS. Original ShotReddish Cuckoo-dove (Macropygia tenuirostris) – Canon 40D + 300 mm L f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC (600mm), f8, 1/40sec, ISO 1600, Manual Exposure, Handheld – steadied using railing , RAW After sharpening with Smart Sharpen and USM filters, plus Neatimage for noise reduction Really need to go back to Ding's place to get this bird in a better shooting conditions. Ding, if the birds are still there next week can I come over again for some coffee! Thanks a lot!! Cheers, Neon

Congratulations on your new capture Neon. I guess, Ding's place will be the best staging ground for shooting the Philippine Cuckoo Dove. By the way Neon, I'm sure you have just overlooked it because you have labeled the PCD as M. phasianella instead of M. tenuirostris.

He-he. My wife said this morning that we should set up a lucrative business: Carpio's Bird and Breakfast. Sure, Neon. Come next week if you feel like it. That goes for the rest of the gang here. This Saturday is the Candaba thing though, so I'll be there. Sunday, I'll be home and there'll be coffee in the pot. Ding, if the birds are still there next week can I come over again for some coffee! Thanks a lot!!

Neon, all of you, grab the invite! You won't ever forget the experience. On the way to Ding's house, you'll come across some other birds as well, and at his place, he serves bacon that's to die for and coffee that tastes so good, the memory of it lingers, on and on and on ...:-)
