while doing my rounds in anvaya earlier today, i had a glimpse of a white bird flying about.... i was still in a huddle with the construction group and was really itching to slip away... hehehe fortunately, meeting finished but couldn't spot the bird. while on the way back to the welcome pavilion... the white bird flew to the lawn area right beside the courtyard area.... made a mad dash back to the car around 50 meters away to change from wide-angle to the nikkor mirror 500/f8 and hurriedly took some shots.... nikon d200 + nikkor 500/f8 iso 400, aperture priority f8 (used bollard light as tripod) unfortunately, i was unable to set the file to raw and all i had were small+fine jpegs... still happy to have taken these shots since i was really envious of jp and his sing friends, con and sc whom i passed in nabasan having a blast btw, happy to report as well that the resident brahminy kite in anvaya was spotted by staff around 2pm riding the thermals

With the strong bill and shortish neck, I'd go for a Cattle Egret. Cattle: Intermediate:

Took this photo the other day. In my 30+ years in San Juan, close to Little Baguio area, this is the first time I've seen Egrets perched on a tree close to my house. The tree is behind my neighbor's house- just across the street. Taken from my gate, I believe that the pine tree is on Greenhills' side. I've seen them 3 mornings in a span of 2 weeks. Are these Intermediate Egrets, too? Why is the bill black? Lyd 40D, 300mm ISO 800 handheld

Those are Little Egrets te' Lyds. They are however, intermediately between the earth and sky :-) This is an Intermediate Egret - slim yellowish bill, eyes, longer neck (compared to the Cattle Egret) and black tip of bill:

I agree with Romy and Sir Bobby. Indeed, the black tip bill is also diagnostic of an Intermediate Egret.
Thanks.

It's great learning about E-greats, I mean Egrets. I love forest birds, especially the tiny ones, so I have never really bothered so much with the Egrets and the Herons to Mike Lu's and Nikki Icarangal's dismay. (One more reason is you hardly see butterflies in their habitats). Another is there are just too many kinds. I guess it is a good illustration for Sesame Street... one of these birds is not like the other. Thanks experts. 4 YEARS with WBCP and this is the first time I am taking interest identifying this very interesting bird. They are so big and the small branches of the pine tree hardly bend when they perch. Amazing!
