Haha... a giant RKFP nicely captured, Bobby... love the pose and clean BG!
On my LCD, some fine details appear to be lost to NR?

I just re-checked my 400D's settings - it was set on Faithful - with sharpness at 7! No wonder I found it hard to sharpen the image even a little more using USM! Artifacts would come out. Bwahahaha. Re-processing the image. :-)

Image replaced with ZERO sharpenning and ZERO Noise reduction scripts. :-) Here's the same bird with an even more "Pa Cute" face:

Thanks Master Romy! Here's an OMR shot with the 40D this time using the 100-400L IS Hand-held at the same location and roughly the same lighting conditions:

Another great shot of a tough to expose bird, Bobby! This fellow would qualify in both of our past and current motifs... Just a side comment, I subjectively prefer the sharpening/NR on these two last shots than the first one because of the better preservation of fine detail. Romy Thanks Master Romy! Here's an OMR shot with the 40D this time using the 100-400L IS Hand-held at the same location and roughly the same lighting conditions:

I would say that the RKFP was around 12 feet away lang, and I was using the 400mm with a 2X Converter. The Robin was farther away, about 20 or so, and I was using the 100-400L IS hand-held.
Also, the setting for my 400D was not correct: It was on "Faithful" at a sharpnes of 7. Ordinarily, it would be on "Standard" with Saturation +1 (as in the 40D).

Do you use a hide? am really finding it difficult to get that close to birds.

No, I did not use a hide at that time. There's a place here in Cebu called Tabor where one can find a shelter that is planted with trees on one side. I just stay there and wait for the birds to come into position - much like the Trees place there. :-)
