Spent about 2hrs shooting various water birds at my favourite lagoon but the birds were a bit scarce that day. Surprisingly my best captures came when I was on my way out of the nature reserve late in the day at around 630pm when the light was dying fast. All shot from my car using a pillow as my support Whistling Kite - 1/100, f5.6, ISO800, 50D, 600 f4 + 1.4x TC. Dollar Bird - 1/400, f8, ISO800, 50D, 600 f4 + 1.4x TC. Thanks for looking, William

Nice catch Mate! That must have been dark already as an ISO800 wide open you were just able to get a 1/100 shutter. The pillow really worked!! ;D
It's always towards the end of a sortie that you get the best shots ;D. Just like what happened to us the other day, when we were almost done for the day, we have to walk 10km to get our lifer when in fact it was just in the 1st km was the bird located.

Lovely Kite! another aussie bird that has a modern spiked hairstyle no matter how the groom themselves.. So that's how a dollar bird looks like... handsome and 'clean cut'... Nice shot, mate!

Thanks Romy, pretty happy with the results considering the lighting conditions. I'm really loving the 50D's reach and cropping ability

Thanks Romy, pretty happy with the results considering the lighting conditions. I'm really loving the 50D's reach and cropping ability Yup William, that's a keeper. Those two are it's selling point, lots of pixels for cropping and it's low-light performance.
