The access road to the main pond is still muddy and unpassable, so I resigned myself yesterday to waiting for scarce birds in flight at the part of the access road that can be reached by my vehicle. Thanks, guys. Indeed, I reckon that Candaba will be consistently accessible starting end of November. You know that birds are scarce (and a birdnut is losing his mind) when even the garden variety ones are noticed by the camera. ;D Little Egret ( Egretta garzetta) CANDABA WETLANDS, PAMPANGA, October 23, 2008 1DM2 + 500 f4 IS, 1/1250 sec, f/4, ISO 400, manual exposure, 475B/3421 support And an attempt to catch a tiny bullet in the air is made. ;D Glossy Swiftlet ( Collocalia esculenta ) CANDABA WETLANDS, PAMPANGA, October 23, 2008 1DM2 + 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC, 1/1600 sec, f/7.1, ISO 400, manual exposure, 475B/3421 support, processed 100% crop

The Eastern Marsh-Harriers are back, I saw a couple (male and female) harassing the waterbirds in the distance. Eastern Marsh-Harrier ( Circus spilonotus, female) CANDABA WETLANDS, PAMPANGA, October 23, 2008 1DM2 + 500 f4 IS, 1/1000 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400, manual exposure, 475B/3421 support

Great BIF shots, as always, Mastah! I particularly like the swift - indeed it is like a bullet, small and fast and to be able to capture it photographically requires excellent skills. Great job!

Thanks, Bob! END OF TRAIL. To Candaba regulars, this spot is familiar.... it's the end of the trail as far as my 4x2 birding wagon is concerned. All around are rice plants near fruiting stage - perfect background for low-flying waterbirds, including the Cinnamon Bittern posted. 20D + 18-200 OS, 18 mm, f/8, ISO 400, 1/25 sec, hand held LOWLIGHT BIF SHOOTER. My 1DM2 + naked 500 f4 IS, supported by a Manfrotto 475B tripod and 3421 gimbal head, stands over the wetlands at sunset. It had fired its last BIF shot for the day, as light was already too low for BIFs even with high ISOs and an aperture of f/4. 20D + 18-200 OS, 24 mm, f/9, ISO 400, 1/60 sec, built-in flash at -2/3 FEC, hand held

Whoa, what a dramatic shot of the IDM2 rig, love the sunset BG. Next time, bring a tractor, FTW! ;D I'm thinking of getting an organic 4x4, Ted - a young carabao bull with a sled. I will then lure JP, Ding and the other folks with 4x4s to the big pond, assuring them that the trail might be passable. Of course, they'll get stuck in mud.... and my young 4x4 will recoup its cost pulling these folks out. ;D

They even joke about it, calling it " taxi-kuli". ;D ;D ;D
