Known here in the US as Nutmeg Mannikin (and to caged bird fanciers as Spice Finch) There is a feral population of these birds in Eaton Canyon in Pasadena, not far from where I live. And I learned about it only yeterday (never saw them before in my sorties at this place).Anyway, here are a couple of "documentary" shots. ;D 40D, 420mm, 1/400, f7.1, ISO-400, handheld, RAW same specs as above

Wow!! This bird has a different color pattern from the one's we have locally . Must be considered a sub-species already. Or ("Mistizo na") a hybrid ;D because it grew up in the states ;D I got one from Thailand awhile back, almost the same pattern as what you got. Maybe this sub-species is the one ranging in mainland Asia. Scaly-Breasted Munia ( Lonchura punctulata fretensis)
