really don't know the fill-in flash 'thing'. here's what i got. great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) taken on 06/12/08 at inglewood bird sanctuary. 30D + 100-400L IS @340mm, f/5.6, 1/40 sec, ISO 250, AV mode, flash fired, on monopod. thanks for viewing.

I guess flash won't work with owls. Look at those eyes! Great pose and capture. (OT) Ed, I wish I already had a dslr when I went to the rockies about 22 or so months ago. You're bless to be so close to a wonderful place like that ... except winter of course.

Great looking raptor nicely captured, Ed! I myself haven't learned how to use flash well at birds.
