I planned on posting birds I captured in chronological order, but I'm going to break that rule for now. I captured this Cooper's Hawk a few hours ago (Saturday afternoon local time). I got a tip that there's a hawk's nest on that corner somewhere in downtown. In my attempt to look for the nest, I immediately found this hawk on a cable (either phone or cabletv) which is quite visible. The canopy of oaks(?) and maples, prevented the sunlight from penetrating fully. With the help of flash, it partially help illuminating my subject. This is with a handhled Nikon D300 (my monopod's clip is broken), with the SB-800 speedlight, manually set to full power. AF-S 300mm f/4 D IF-ED. I didn't use the TC14EII, as the bird almost filled the frame already. 1/500s, F/7.1, auto ISO 450, +1EV. Adjusted exposure in CaptureNX by half a stop. Noise can be seen in the shadows, but not distracting, so I didn't apply NR to preserve some details. Let me know what you think. Ted

Nice one Ted, very good use of the flash. I just think it's a little bit too centered and might be nice to saturate the colors some more. Overall, great capture.
