Hey guys, My new 600 f4 IS had its first field test yesterday. In short this lens is nothing short of amazing; razor sharp wide open, lightning fast focus and its size and weight can be summed up as mammoth! Coming from a 100-400L and 400 5.6L, this lens is definitely in a league of its own - absolutely jaw dropping experience for me ;D 600L f4 IS + 1D Mark III 1. White Bellied Sea Eagle with turtle
2.
3.
4. Ibis
5. Spoonbill
6. Egret (2x TC @ 1200mm)
I'll post some more as I go.... Thanks for looking William

Thank you Romy, now I can truly understand why you love your 500 so much The keeper rate with this lens has increased significantly for me... out of the 200 or so shots i took there would have been about 5-10 slightly soft images!

Here's some I took after work, the light was fading fast, had to use ISO1600 on these but they still cleaned up nicely. Honey Eaters at a park tap

OMIGOSH! That's a winner. Here's mine, pardon for the insertion (post): 30D+600f4, f/5, 1/2000 sec, ISO 200, AV mode, and can you believe it: handheld, standing.(too heavy man). Taken on July 13, 2008 at Cochrane, Alberta. Thanks for your time. I might oversharpen on this one(pp). Mountain Bluebird (Sialia currucoides)

Thanks guys, it has taken me ages to save up for the this so the wait was well worth it Ed, very nice shot of the Bluebird, the IQ and background blur this lens creates is nothing short of amazing! I guess we're the only two here with 600's? Cheers William

Awesome shots, William and Ed!
Two of my favorite bird photographers here in the U.S. (Bob Steele and Bob Royse) have the 600mm as their basic lens when out in the fields.
