I was getting bored at home. Even though it's cloudy I decided to drive to one of Vancouver's watershed. If I don't see any birds at least I can get some exercise ;D As I expected there were not many birds out here. I decided to head back to my car and go to another spot in the area when this Jay started making a lot of noise. So I just followed where he was and got this pictures. He flew away before I can get any closer. Now I know why everyone needs a blind. 40D | EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM | 1/1000 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 200mm | Sports | JPG | Sharpening filter & Auto-levels, handheld, IS=enabled: 40D | EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM | 1/30 sec @ f/16, ISO 400, 200mm | Sports | JPG | Sharpening filter & Auto-levels, handheld, IS=enabled:

The other weekend when we went to Tahoe, the Steller's Jay is one of my target species, I know that there's a lot of them up there, I've seen them before. It's not a good birding for me though, as the only one I saw from the trail was a woodpecker (not even sure what kind, maybe a nuttals'). I only had a limited time so I have to go back. So while eating our lunch, I finally saw one, which perched on the tree next to where we're at. Unfortunately, I'm carrying my daughter. I will have another shot in 2 to 3 weeks, we're going back ... yooohoo!
Before this year, I thought it's a blue jay, not! Now I'm better educated, hehehe. Still a good capture Jun, even though you have a limited reach. I know how that feels ... With the BIF, it's more important to get a higher shutter speed than DOF.

Oh Jun, those are nice captures of the famous Blue Jays. I dunno, but I have a special affection for blue birds, esp. when the colors are mixed with gray and black. I'm also a baseball fanatic and an avid fan of the Blue Jays.
