You continue to amaze us with your (alleged) newbie shots! For a few hurried shots, these are great.
Exposure is spot on, though the white throat on the 2nd one seems on the bright side. Try playing around without flash, too; or master the use of very subtle fill-in so you put more depth on the bird.

I 101% agree, these are both excellent shots Although it would have been superrrr excellent shots IF the eyes did not show the silver thing from the flash

Nice capture Ally, great composition.
A bit over-exposed as the highlights were blown. The aperture priority mode with the flash selected 1/60" automatically. Not sure how the metering goes on this one, but it's to much for the white part.
From what I learned (and I maybe wrong), when shooting birds with white feathers, spot meter on that. But of course, it's not always possible if it's too small or if you don't have the luxury of time. But if you have the time, then you can always check the histogram and adjust exposure accordingly. You can stop down at least 2/3 to 1 stop, to preserve the details. Then just adjust the levels in post.
*edit* Looking at the bird and the lighting again, noticed it's tough to balance the highlight and shadow on that one.

Nice shots, Ally..... interesting to note that the white throat of the WTKF in our islands is much smaller.
