2PM, last workday of the year, in my office, I felt I've done a week's worth of work since morning; I needed a break. While others retain sanity by puffing a smoke or sipping coffee in the canteen, I make a quick drive to UP to try my luck at some birds. And lucky I was. Is this an immature Yellow-breasted Fruit Dove? Not too sure because I can't see traces of the rufous cheek. Whatever it is, it's a lifer for me! And they're all full frame so there's lots of detail. One of those moments when you're clicking away and you're sure it's going to turn out good.

Nice frame-filling shots with tons of detail, Ding! This looks like an immature YBFD to me too. Interestingly, it was also around this time of the year (early January) when we photographed another immature in Makiling last year. BTW, on my calibrated LCD, the pics are somewhat a bit dark... Romy

Thanks, Romy. My monitor is not calibrated on account of I don't know how How do I do this? I use a Dell LCD monitor that came standard with my Dell SC430 desktop. Do I fool around with the buttons on the monitor or should I do it through the control panel? Should I get one of those spyders? Or is there a cheap way of doing it? Should we put up a new thread on the Photography techniques forum?

Hi Ding. we have the same problem about the monitor brightness. your photos look a bit dark on my desktop monitor here in the office, but looks bright on my laptop monitor at home. what i do when using my laptop is to open a photo from Idol Romy's gallery and approximate the brightness of that photo and the one i'm processing. much much cheaper than the spyder thing. hehehe

Hi Ding, I highly recommend a hardware calibrator/profiler if you maintain a web gallery for sharing your pics, so the viewers will see your pics as you intended these to appear. I use a Monaco Optix, but the Spyder, or any other mainstream brand hardware calibrator, would also work well. Adobe Gamma is not effective at all IMHO, particularly on LCD displays. Here's a very readable link on monitor calibration: www.northlight-images.co.uk/viewing.htmlRomy Thanks, Romy. My monitor is not calibrated on account of I don't know how How do I do this? The PS program would have installed this in your computer. I just use this to calibrate my laptop monitor. Hope this helps! ;D Cheers, Neon

I've seen these birds in captivity @ Disney's Animal Kingdom and I really like their colors especially the deep green plummage. I wish I could see em one day in the wild. Good job Ding !!!

Been to Animal Kingdom and, from what I recall, all the animals were animatronics. Did I miss some part of the theme park? Great capture Ding! The lighting looked a bit challenging, but still a great shot.
