Kenko 1.4X PRO Digi 300 is a safe bet, a lot cheaper than Canon for the same IQ. I think 1.4X is the most that you go for your lens otherwise the hit in IQ would be unacceptable.

If I may butt-in... April, I've been on this road a few weeks ago. Forget about Lens & Shutter on Broadway they were useless. I said I wanted to use the TC for my 70-200mm. and the saleslady started telling me to buy a 400mm instead. So I know I wasn't gonna get the right assistance that I need Kenko: Photo Express in Maple Ridge do not carry them. There's a store in Delta but I forgot the name sells it for $290 but Leo's Camera on the West End sells it for $269. But both store do not carry them in-store. You have to pre-pay and they will order it for you. I forgot but I think Kerrisdale can order it for you too. I never checked any store in the Richmond area. Rey, I was going to buy the Kenko but changed my mind when I realize that the store was going to make me wait until their next ordering period. Well I already know that the Canon was US$295 at Amazon so I decided to order it on-line instead. BTW the Canon cost CDN$450 in Vancouver. I know on-line shopping is not for everyone but this might be something April might consider. my two cents.

Hopefully all this information is helpful to April.
Too late for me. Mine is sitting in the US post office just across the border. I can't wait to pick it up.

I second a Kenko Pro 1.4x TC (you've to tape the pins though to get AF on an xxxD body).

Romy, have you ever used a 1.4x tc sigma on your canon lens with good results? hard to find kenko tc here, canon too expensive, and sigma is half the price of canon ;D ty Hi April, The optics of the Sigma 1.4x TC are great (even a shade sharper in the center than my Canon 1.4x II). However, AF won't work at f/8 except with the pro bodies. If you tape the pins, it will hunt endlessly, hardly locking on except on contrastiest subjects under harsh light. If you can MF, I'd highly recommend the Sigma 1.4x. Here's one taken with a 1dm2 + 100-400 + Sigma 1.4x, 560 mm, wide open, hand held (it's heavily cropped then printed to 12"x15" for the UP exhibit, and feather detail is still very good). Romy

Will AF & IS work on a 5D, kenko pro 300 1.4x TC and a 100-400L?

He-he. I was going to offer my .02c but saw everyone's pitched in their very good points.
Yup. Go for the Kenko if you can find it. Happy with mine. Permanently mated to my 400mmL.
