Just wanted to share with you guys my delight for this spectacular binocular which I purchase during my recent US trip. Surprisingly not much online reviews for it so hence my own review.
Imaqe Quality:
Fully multi-coated lenses
Very crisp images enabling me to see more detail even from areas with dark shadows. (Martin and Tina can attest to this.)
Amazing DOF, 3D-like
It offers an eye relief of 15 which is just right for me and my eyelashes... hahaha!
Somehow for me, I find the contrast a bit lacking especially in very bright situations.
Magnification: 10X
I opted to go for 10x magnification but there's also an 8x version of the 42's
Size :
5.7 in height x 5.1 in width x 2.1 in depth
For a 10x42, its still compact enough for me to (a) sling it on my neck together with my camera gear (b) stow it in my current camera bag (less gastos)
Weight:
0.66 kg
Just right, but with the right pair of neoprene straps
Purchase Price:
- $320 inclusive of tax
Others are selling it for much less... Huhuhu! That's fine since I was in SanFo for a short frame of time and with even lesser options of where to purchase it.
Others:
a) Water-proof/Fog-proof/Dirt-proof
rubberized, ruggedized body (not sure how shock-proof it is)
fog-proof was tested to its limits when I took it out straight from an airconditioned (cold setting) van and out into a drizzle in Anvaya.... it fogged up! Hehehe!
b) Focusing
center-focus ring is easy to turn and thus provides quick-focusing
near/close-focusing distance of approximately 3m
c) Caps
comes with front/eye caps with strap hook and rear/exit pupil caps
I just wished the rear/exit pupil caps were attached/hinged to the body as it may become lost. It almost always comes off when taking the bins off the neoprene casing and stays in there though.
d) Strap
- Had to purchase a neoprene strap to replace the original oem nylon strap which was irritating my neck already after 3 hours of use
e) Casing
Love the neoprene casing, no need to purchase a different one
f) Intangibles
I simply adore the ERGONOMICS! Fits perfectly into my grip.
For the price, this bin is a steal!!!
Now someone lend me his Nikon, Zeiss and Leica so we can test it side by side!!!
