There are unconfirmed reports/translations that the 50D could have in-body IS. If this is true, my Sigmonster will be back to hyper-active duty! ;D Link to the supposedly in-body IS page: www.canon.icp.dog-cr.jp/products/camera/eos/50d/info1_3.htmlBabelfish translation (Chinese simple to English) of first paragraph: Canon independent development production's Shan Fan the camera special-purpose lens built-in against shake the structure: Phantom stabler (IS), the lens built-in vibration top observance of ceremony surveyor shakes. Adjusts in lens' optical element accurately according to the vibration degree, causes the optical fiber to refract to prevents the image vibration the direction, this is the Canon unique vanguard technology. In the lens against shakes the function to cause in viewfinder's image no longer to vibrate, enables the photographer to be possible to carry on accurately the composition and focusing; May also make the suitable individual adjustment according to lens' characteristic, this is the fuselage against shakes the superiority which the function does not have. When photography, is absorbed body clear Yi Bian, to lay out the satisfied picture.

Whew! And here I was thinking that, with my less-than-a-year-old 40D, what excuse will I give the wife to upgrade.

Whew! And here I was thinking that, with my less-than-a-year-old 40D, what excuse will I give the wife to upgrade. Not crazy about the 9-point AF and cramming in more pixels into the tiny 1.6 crop sensor..... but the Live View AF, 900K+ pixel LCD and AF fine-tuning are welcome upgrades. The new Digic 4 processor seems to be a big jump in horsepower too - 95 MP/sec (@ 14-bit RAW) throughput. A couple of these for future 1Dxx bodies might be able to hit 150 - 190 MP/sec (@ 14 bit), and that translates to frame rates of 7 - 9 fps @ 21 MP full 14-bit captures, or 9 - 12 fps for 16 MP. Pretty soon, the limiting factor for fps will be the mechanical processes (shutter and aperture operations, etc.). If you're using an 8.2 MP DSLR, a 15.1 MP new body will be akin to using a 1.36x TC with full functioning AF at f/5.6. IMHO though, Canon is still missing my dream wildlife camera, which can be made from off-the-shelf components and tech: 1. 8-10 MP 1.6 CF, 14-bit, usable up to ISO 3200, boostable to ISO 6400 full res and ISO 12800 half res (4-5 MP) 2. single Digic 4, 8-10 fps (the throughput is capable of 9-12 fps, but let's leave some CPU power to fire up the AF) 3. 1DM2(n) class AF on 21 points or more 4. 40D body with weather sealing 5. VGA LCD with AF I'd pay up to USD 2.5-3 K for this birder's camera.

OT: gastos nanaman! I might just hold on to my 1DM2/40D/20D till one breaks down before getting a 50D. By then, its price should have settled down, and any issues will be identified already by the beta testers/early adopters. ;D

OT: gastos nanaman! It'll never end, for sure. The best way is to enjoy what you have, and use it to the fullest.
