On the brighter side, the lack of any exciting new release from Canon is healthy for my wallet. ;D ;D ;D

You mean Canonites? ;D ;D ;D
I still prefer a DX sensor-sized Nikon, for the 1.5x crop factor. Maybe the next generation D400. So, no full-frame sensor for me yet.
That's MHO.

Yeah, pricing should be close to what the 5D used to be.
From what I read, there are several prototype Nikon bodies out there being tested. One of them is the D3, which came out first.
There could be a D3X, with the new 24mp Sony sensor.

I'll be right I wouldn't jump ship just yet, the 5DMkII is not far off. A few of my photography suppliers have hinted its release is near from 'trusted' Canon sources As they say, bodies come and go, glass lasts

Oh yeah, browsed on Thom's review earlier too. The reason he came out with the review early (and true for other reviewers who already did the D3 and D300), is that he merged the two reviews of the bodies. There's nothing really new with the D700, it's just a combination of the two bodies.
Very tempting, but I have to resist. My priority is to get a new bigger glass, and even that I don't know when it's going to happen. ;D
With the very good high ISO performance, you can pull out details from a shaded part of the bird in post processing.
