@jp yeah price is tempting. I called Tony he'll give it for P38k. whew itching itching here Thanks Neon for the test shots. Good thing you posted it. Anyway whats your take on this lens? I know the picture speaks for itslelf but what are your thoughts abt the lens having experienced handling and using original party lenses. Is there color cast? Sigma tends to be yellowish. Hows it on this lens? Is the color accurate? Thanks again

I know the picture speaks for itslelf but what are your thoughts abt the lens having experienced handling and using original party lenses. Is there color cast? Sigma tends to be yellowish. Hows it on this lens? Is the color accurate? Thanks again I don't have much lens to compare it with but only the 300 mm f4 IS. Compared to the 300 f4 it's a little bit soft. The colors are great but you still have to adjust the contrast on cropped images a great deal during post processing compared to the 300 f4. On full frame shots both color and contrast are good. Color cast, I don't think this has got to do with the lens but more on the white balance you are using. As you can see from the full frame shots with white balance set to bright sunlight the colors are great. AF is HSM-fast and OS certainly works great. It could be used for BIF shots as well. If zoomed out to 400mm the AF could probably work better as there is more light going into the sensor making it a better BIF option than the 500mm max. I still need to test it with this settings. The IQ is still good even with a 2x TC and still acceptable with a stacked 2x and 1.4x TC, as you can see from the Owl photos. You can see all the test shots here.Anyway, My lens has an issue with a minor back focus, I still need to have it calibrated when I get back.

Another thing I've noticed with the captures of this lens is, the softer images resulted in a somewhat lower contrast and higher dynamic range. Even on high noon shots the shadows are not that harsh and there are less blown out (over exposed) areas. As seen from the Zitting Cisticola and Pied Bushcat shots. Here's one more shot of my favorite LTS at UP NIGS. 40D + Sigma 150-500, f 6.3, 1/320 sec, ISO 400, OS On, Manual Exposure, Handheld.

I planned on buying this one too ... unfortunately the Nikon mount was not available yet last month, and I need a long lens for my trip. I really want the VR 80-400, but it's not an AF-S lens. So I settled for the AF-S 300 f/4 plust TC1.4, which came out as a good decision.
My local dealer here, said his Sigma agent told him this lens will be available before the end of the month (June). The Nikon mount 120-400 should be available by now (I haven't checked yet).
